This SWEET 8-week certificate course offers an in-depth, practical, and transformative journey through the theory and application of Transactional Analysis Therapy (TAT). Participants will learn how to use TA to identify and shift life scripts, enhance self-awareness, resolve internal conflicts, improve communication, and support lasting change. The course integrates TA’s core concepts with modern neuroscience, psychoanalysis, and evidence-based approaches, making it highly relevant for today’s clinicians.

Learning Objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Describe and apply core TA concepts including ego states, transactions, games, and life scripts.
- Identify dysfunctional patterns in self-talk and interpersonal relationships.
- Facilitate awareness and resolution of early decisions and psychological scripts.
- Use TA in combination with other modalities (CBT, DBT, MI, Psychoanalysis).
- Engage in transformational dialogue that fosters growth and self-responsibility.
- Apply TA tools in clinical, organizational, and community-based settings.
Course Format
- Duration: 8 weeks
- Schedule: Weekly 2-hour live sessions (recordings available for those who miss)
- CEUs: 2 per session, total of 16 if attended live
- Modality: Virtual via Zoom

Week 1: (July 8, 2025) Introduction to Transactional Analysis and the Adult Mind
- History and evolution of TA (Eric Berne and beyond)
- Ego states: Parent, Adult, Child – Identifying and working with each
- Concept of the “Adult Mind” and how to access it in therapy
Week 2: (July 15, 2025) Transactions – The Language of the Psyche
- Complementary, crossed, and ulterior transactions
- Understanding communication breakdowns and emotional reactivity
- The “transactional lens” for analyzing clinical dialogue
Week 3: (July 29, 2025) The Games People Play – Repetition Compulsion and Unconscious Patterns
- Psychological games: payoff, payoff substitutes, hidden agendas
- Game analysis and resolution
- Working with recurring interpersonal scripts
Week 4: (August 5, 2025) Life Scripts – Healing the Past through Awareness
- What is a life script? How and when it is formed
- Script messages and injunctions (e.g., “Don’t feel,” “Don’t succeed”)
- Methods to uncover and rewrite life scripts
Week 5: (August 12, 2025) Rackets, Payoffs, and the Body-Mind Connection
- Emotional rackets: identifying patterns of chronic emotional states
- Racket systems and how they drive behavior and identity
- Somatic components of script and emotional payoff
Week 6: (August 19, 2025) Permission, Protection, and Potency – The Path to Change
- Therapeutic tools for script transformation
- How to give and sustain “Permission” in clinical work
- The importance of safety (“Protection”) and personal agency (“Potency”)
Week 7: (August 26, 2025) TA and the Inner Dialogue – Working with Internal Conflicts
- Internalized Parent-Child dialogues
- Reparenting through the Adult ego state
- Integrating TA with mindfulness, inner child work, and narrative therapy
Week 8: (September 2, 2025) Integrating TA into Practice – A Case-Based Application
- Clinical application across populations and settings
- Group presentations of TA-informed case conceptualizations
- TA for supervision, leadership, and organizational change
- Final assessment and closing ritual

Your Facilitator and Co-Facilitator
Mardoche Sidor, MD, is a Harvard-trained Quadruple Board Certified Psychiatrist, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Columbia University, School of Physicians and Surgeons, trained in and taught all major psychotherapeutic modalities, including and not limited to CBT, DBT, Family Systems, and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy. He is also the author of 11 books including Journey to Empowerment, Discovering Your Worth, The Power of Faith. and, The Art of Living. Dr. Sidor has worked both as a primary care physician and Medical Director in three different settings, including a Chief Medical Officer of the Center for Alternative Sentencing and Employment Services (CASES). He is a main facilitator for the SWEET Institute. His 11th book, entitled, NLP for Clinicians is now available to the public.
Karen Dubin, PhD, LCSW, is a Columbia-trained Social Worker with wide clinical, teaching, and supervision experience. She also has a background in management, mentorship, and leadership that spans more than 20 years. Her added passion is in advocacy and coaching. She has previously held Executive level positions, and two other directorships in different organizations. She is currently Adjunct Faculty at Columbia University School of Social Work and Adelphi University School of Social Work. She also maintains a private practice, provides supervision, and clinical and management training. She is also a personal and executive-level coach. She is a main facilitator for the SWEET Institute.
