There is much need for and much interest in CBT
for PTSD. Yet, there is also a lot of confusion. How does it work? How do we, clinicians,
go about the goals and methods when using CBT with individuals with PTSD? Our
clients with PTSD get better when they learn to stay for longer periods of time
in the presence of a trigger or situation that evokes anxiety distress, or
re-traumatization. They will also benefit from imaginal exposure to reduce the
likelihood of being overtaken by their own thoughts. Having a set of CBT tools
to use in the most possible efficient way can, therefore, be a very great asset
for all clinicians working with individuals with PTSD.
What will you learn from this seminar on Mind Adjustment?
- Learn how to apply Imaginal and In Vivo Exposure
- Help your clients learn how to break down the association between sensations of distress and the trigger, situations, or thoughts that produce the distress
- Help your clients learn how to break down the association between displaying reactive behavior and decreasing the distress
- Learn behavior activation and a series of skills that will help break the pattern of re-traumatization and distress
- Learn about the grounding techniques, the Flashing Halting Protocol, and factors that may impede emotional processing
- Help your clients understand the different ways of interacting with others, and the brain alarm system associated with each one of them
- Help your clients master the principle of Acceptance in PTSD; Cognitive restructuring in PTSD; and the different techniques that will provide them with what has been missing all along
During this 4-hour seminar, we will guide you through an experiential learning where you will be learning what it takes to help your clients, and how to implement that in daily practice.
