Abstract

This groundbreaking, advanced seminar redefines Unconditional Positive Regard (UPR) for contemporary clinical practice. Moving beyond Carl Rogers’ humanistic origins, this two-hour, high-energy masterclass explores how UPR can be operationalized, measured, and scaled across high-acuity environments such as supportive housing, community psychiatry, addiction recovery, and trauma-informed systems of care. Participants will learn evidence-based micro-behaviors, fidelity anchors, and supervision loops that translate empathy into measurable outcomes, building safety, dignity, and engagement even under the most challenging conditions.

Learning Objectives

·      Operationalize UPR into ten observable micro-behaviors that can be measured and coached in supervision.

·      Differentiate authentic UPR from rescuing, collusion, or performative warmth through structured decision trees.

·      Apply UPR in high-acuity clinical situations involving psychosis, substance use, chronic homelessness, and emotional dysregulation.

·      Implement fidelity and outcome measures to evaluate UPR at both the individual and team levels.

·      Translate the UPR stance into policies, documentation, and supervision practices that reinforce dignity and empowerment.

Continuing Education Information

This program provides 2.0 continuing education hours for licensed mental health professionals. Participants must attend the full session to receive CE credit. No partial credit will be awarded. The content level is advanced and assumes foundational knowledge of person-centered therapy, motivational interviewing, and trauma-informed care.
